Welcome to opentrak.org!

The OpenTrak project began as a workflow management tool for the College of Engineering at San Jose State University. Dean Donald Kirk authorized Kindness Israel, Director of Engineering Computing Systems, to design and develop a process to improve computing services within the college. An early solution called "JobTrack" was implemented in June, 1999. From that date until the present, continual improvements have been made.

The first version of JobTrack was a simple email messaging system. Soon after inception, an Oracle8 database engine and Perl/CGI web interface were incorporated.

The primary objective for releasing OpenTrak as an open source project is to encourage the integration of other databases.

OpenTrak embraces the concept that open source solutions nourish the altruistic and scientific nature in all of us.
